Under the new U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS) nearly 95% of bilateral trade in consumer and industrial products will become duty free within 5 years of the date the FTA enters into force. Most remaining tariffs will be eliminated within 10 years. The U.S. International Trade Commission estimates the reduction on goods alone will add $10 billion to $12 billion annually to U.S. GDP and around $10 billion to annual exports to Korea. Speaker(s): Wonchang La- We are privileged to have Wonchang La, First Secretary for Economic affairs from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea as a speaker for this event. Mr. La will describe the current domestic market and business environment in Korea, the bilateral trade and economic relationship between the U.S. and Korea and the benefits of KORUS across various sectors including manufacturing and services. Mr. La has been stationed at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington, DC since early 2010. Since joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1997, he has served in numerous government positions. He holds a BA in History from the University of California Los Angeles. Eric Sohn- Eric Sohn is a desk officer at the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) in Washington, DC, specializing in U.S. trade relations with the Republic of Korea. He works to solve bilateral trade issues and disputes on behalf of U.S. industry and frequently advises DOC senior leadership on the U.S.-Korea Trade Agreement and U.S.
