Since economic reforms began in 1976, China’s economy has picked up steam in growth rate, size and complexity, resulting in a greater regional and global relevance. China’s economy has enjoyed dramatic year-on-year GDP increases over the past decade, such as from 9.2% in 2008 to 10.3 % in 2010. China stands as the 3rd largest market for luxury goods behind the U.S., and 2010 exports between the U.S. and China increased by 32%. Successful interaction with and operations in China’s economy require understanding its unique business environment. Speaker(s): Nestor Gounaris is managing partner of China Solutions, and has over 13 years' experience in China ranging from 1989 to the present day. Nestor has represented over 700 clients (including Canyon Ranch, KPMG, Silicon Valley Bank) of varied industries and nationalities on matters ranging from large scale investment projects to multimillion dollar cross-border trade disputes. He was an associate at O'Melveny & Myers and Simmons & Simmons in their respective Shanghai offices before founding China Solutions. Nestor has taught Chinese business law at UVA Law School and UCLA Law School, and presented on the same topic at Harvard Law School, Georgetown University School of Business, and University of Washington Foster School of Business. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he worked on Sino-focused projects at the National Committee on US-China Relations, the Committee for Scholarly Communications with China, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Henry Luce Foundation, and the Academy of Education Development.
